We have developed and tested a new concept of biodiesel analysis based in NIR (Near Infra-Red) equipment. These biodiesel analyzers allows
monitor the biodiesel production process in real time for all EN 14214 and ATSM D-6751 parameters.
Due to the partnership between BB-DIESEL and the Geaqua, we have extended our expertises to the microalgae research, project, production and equipment manufacturing. Therefore we manufacture advanced photobioreactors which control temperature, PO2, PCO2, pH, light, medium nutrients, turbidity, flow, production rate; ie capable to grow any type of algae in full automated process with an impressive medium control precision. Another advantage of these PBR is the self sterilization system, not requiring expensive sterilization equipment. The BB-DIESEL biodiesel equipments range covers the small to medium scale plants which represent biodiesel productions from 300L per day up to 50,000 Ton per year. The photobioreactors we manufactures could be classified in three scales: bench top for laboratory, pilot scale and tailor made photobioreactors for industrial production.

BIODIESEL PROCESSORS
We manufacture biodiesel processors from 200 Litre per day up to 50,000 MT per year. All models are PLC controlled and have high quality stainless steel vessels and piping to improve safety and reliability. Small models are all-in-one processing units that make the whole biodiesel production process from the oil heating to the biodiesel washing. These processors are PLC controlled and the biodiesel wash is made by synthetic megnesium silicate.
Medium scale transesterification processors are designed to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These high quality full automated batch reactors are stand alone units but can be easily assembled in parallel with one central unit command for all units. Each model delivers 1000 L of biodiesel every two hours (1000 L per hour with pre heated oil). High shear reactors are high capacity continuous flow reactors that can be settled in new or existant plants. These rotor - stator based units process biodiesel instantly at low temperatures using less methoxide than conventional biodiesel processors, saving energy, methoxide, time and room space. Full
automated processors are high quality transesterification
units composed by the transesterification
reactor and the
methoxide mixer unit. They are automated stand
alone units
which can easily be integrated
in existing or new biodiesel plants,
working individually or in parallel with common
controls. Each
unit delivers 1000 L of high quality biodiesel
every two hours but this production rate can
be duplicated with pre heated feedstocks.

High
shear reactors are used for long scale production
facilities.
These cost effective units improves biodiesel
efficiency production saving room space, time,
methanol and
energy consumption due
the efficiency increasing and smaller temperatures
required to the
transesterification reaction.

|
Synthetic
magnesium silicate

Synthetic
magnesium silicate is powerfull adsorbent product
that eliminate all the biodiesel impurities
without biodiesel absortion. This powder is
mixed with the biodiesel after the glycerine
separation, at 60ºC in strong agitation
for 30 minutes. After that, the magnesium silicate
is filtered and the biodiesel is ready to be
used. |

|
|
|
|
FEEDSTOCK NEUTRALIZING
Lower cost feedstock like used cooking oils (UCO), animal fats or Jatropha oil have high
free fatty acids (FFA) contents that need to be reduced before the transesterification process. To produce quality biodiesel the feedstock must have 0,5% FFA maximum as value. Our oil neutralizers are ideal for UCO neutralization once this raw material usualy have 2% to 5% of FFA contents. These full automated units neutralize 1000L of oil every 2 operating hours in a PLC controled process. Feedstock with FFA contents higher than 5% needs to be neutralized by acid esterification. This esterification process can be made using acidic polymer based resins in a specially designed columns or by addition of H2SO4 in high shear based neutralizers. Acid esterification columns and high shear neutralizers are tailored according to the client specifications. The equipments meet the CE specifications and all parts are ATEX certified. BIODIESEL WASHING
After the methanol striping and glycerin separation, biodiesel needs to be clear of contamints resulting from the transesterification process and oil residues. This biodiesel purification is called biodiesel wash and can be conducted in three different ways: 1) Water wash:
In the water wash process the biodiesel is mixed with water and H3PO4 to remove the contaminants and decrease the alkalinity resulting from the transesterification process. After that the biodiesel is rewashed to remove the H3PO4 and remaining contaminants until becoming clear. Finnaly, the water is removed and biodiesel is ready to use. 2) Resin based dry wash: This dry wash biodiesel purification process consists in forcing the biodiesel to pass through the specially designed resin columns at a constant flow rate. The ion exchange resins will remove the the contaminants from the biodiesel
3) Synthetic magnesium silicate: High purity grade magnesium silicate with low average particles size can remove the contaminants from the biodiesel by adsorption. The TrySil ® is mixed with biodiesel in a ratio of 0,2% to 0,5%, at 70ºC and strong agitation for 30 minutes. Then the mixture biodiesel / silicate is filtered to remove the silicate and the biodiesel is ready to use. The equipments meet the CE specifications and all parts are ATEX certified. |
METHOXIDE PRE MIXING
Methoxide can be prepared mixing NaOH / KOH in methanol or diluting sodium / potassium methylate in methanol. The catalyst quantity added to methanol is dependent from the feedstock titration and must be rigorous to guarantee a good transesterification. Catalyst dispensers
 Catalyst dispensers are used to add and mix solid catalyst to the methanol. These high quality 316 stainless steel dispensers are automated to ensure fine addiction of catalyst into the methanol in order to guarantee the exact methoxide concentration. The operator only have to enter the titration result in the command unit and be sure that the catalyst compartment is not empty. The dispenser will prepare the methoxide automatically.
Catalyst dispensers are specially useful for medium scale plants which use solid catalyst.

In-line
methoxide mixers

BB-DIESEL in-line mixers were
specifically designed to prepare methoxide using
liquid sodium or potassium methylate. Due to its
special mixing system these equipments ensure
absolute methoxide uniformity.
Built with high quality 316 stainless steel, this
cost effective equipment have an advanced control
system which allows methoxide concentration adjustment
with an extraordinary accuracy. Another advantage
is the regulation of the quantity of methanol
that reacts with the feedstock, enabling process
fine-tune according to raw material and plant
type.

METHANOL RECOVERING
After the transesterification process the biodiesel contains about 2% of methanol. In order to meet EN 14214 and ATSM D-6751 standards that methanol has to be removed from the biodiesel down to 0.2% of maximum content. Because the methanol have a significant cost in the production process, recovering the methanol to be reused represents a significant reduction costs. In fact, this unit can
decrease the methanol consumption up to 50%. The BB-DIESEL methanol recovering units are specially designed to operate after the transesterification stage. This sequence has great advantage when compared to other units in the biodiesel market because in a single pass we obtain: 1 - Methanol extraction from the biodiesel;
2 - Methanol extraction from the glycerine, producing easy storage glycerine with commercial value; 3 - Condensation of all stripped methanol to be reused in the transesterification stage.

|
Therefore
a single equipment is needed to recover the methanol
from both biodiesel and
glycerine streams, which represents savings
of
tens of thousands euro. Another advantage
of our methanol recovering units is to improve
the biodiesel / glycerine separation as dry
methanol glycerin is denser than rich methanol
glycerine.
To guarantee total methanol extraction with low
utilities consumption the BB-DIESEL
methanol recovering unit works under vacuum conditions.
All the process is full
automated and controlled by the command unit.
This cost effective equipment is built in high
quality 304 stainless steel and skid mounted.
It is a stand alone unit that can easily be assembled
